Match Report - Chepstow RFC u8s v Croesyceiliog RFC u8s

Chepstow Team - Will A (c), Otis, Flynn, Tomos, Tomas, Will D, Kameli, Owen

With the beast from the East bringing a cold chill across the Severn a strong Croesyceiliog team blowing from the West via the Llwyd Valley into Chepstow , how would the brave Chepstow u8 team cope in between these two forces of nature.

The game started with Croesy in possession of the ball having won the early K.O., a push into the Chepstow half only led to a 6 tag turnover by the home team to allow Flynn to take control of the ball and launch a length of the field run and subsequent try as Croesy struggled to get close to his snake hips. Croesy took control of the ball only to drop the ball and knock-on, with the referee allowing play to continue Tomas grabbed the ball and control of the game with a powerful run. Close support by Otis gave Chepstow their second try of the game. Croesy took their kick-off and this time found their way through the Chepstow defense to score their first try of the game. A push forward by Chepstow provided Flynn with his second try of the game. A great step by a Croesy player pulled one back for the away team. Otis then drove through and scored a weaving try quickly followed by a Croesy try. Chepstow pushed forward and some great support play from Will D almost led to a try but he was tagged within close proximity of the try line, a direct pass to Kameli led to him scoring on hs return after a few months away. Chepstow managed another 6 tag turnover and a strong run from Owen with a great offload to Tomas was unlucky not to have led to a try for the home side. This signalled to the end of the first half.

Chepstow came out for the second half like a team possessed, while you must applaud their attempts to pass prior to being tagged it would have appeared that only a few players got the memo. Some wild passing by the home team led to a dropped ball and a turn-over to Crosey who quickly scored to get within a try. Flynn was focused and took the ball from the kick-off to score quickly to take the gap back upto 2 tries. Croesy scored themselves quickly after the restart and then levelled the match score after a turnover by Chepstow who ran into touch, which could have only been described as a detoour in attempt to join the u7 pitch and their game!! Chepstow regained their composure to secure another 6 tag turnover by getting stuck into the opposition, however they were swiftly penalised for continuing to fall on the floor in an attempt to not get tagged by the opposition. With a draw looming on the cards, a suitable result for great play by both teams, Chepstow had the last roll of the dice and in the last play of the game managed to sneak a try with Flynn getting in for his 4th of the game. Final Score Chepstow 7 tries against Croesyceiliogs 6 tries.

Man of the Match - Tomas Briley
