Avonmouth RFC u8 v Chepstow RFC u8 Match Report

Chepstow travelled across the bridge to a sunny Avonmouth where the home team were fired up and ready for their guests from across the border, thanks to plenty of sugar at some Halloween parties the night before….

Chepstow Starting VII – Otis Smith (capt), Flynn Wixey, Tomas Briley, Tomos Barker, Amelie Thomason, Will Davies, Owen Ramsey Sub: Kameli Ciriduadua

Chepstow began the match brightly with Amelie carrying forward her player of the match performance from last week with the first try of the game. Avonmouth hit back swiftly with a try of their own, Owen then took a well worked gain of territory by the team to get Chepstow back in front. Some great defence by Chepstow led to a 7 Tag turnover which then led to a second try by Amelie to put Chepstow two up. A passage of play led to Chepstow turning over the ball through some great tagging by Tomas and Will, however the continued draw of the touchline led to Chepstow forfeiting the ball back to Avonmouth. Chepstow managed to prevent Avonmouth getting onto the scoresheet through some fantastic defence leading to a Flynn run through the defence to set-up Otis for his first try of the game. Avonmouth managed to pull back a try only for Tomas to make a barnstorming run down the wing supported by Otis who unfortunately knocked on to finish the first half.

The second half saw the introduction of Kameli in his first game of competitive rugby as a replacement for Amelie. Chepstow began the second half in much the saw vein as they finished the first half, dominating the tagging and forcing several turnovers. Will continued to play with a great big smile on his face whenever he got the ball and made a some fantastic runs through the Avonmouth defence only to be tagged right on the line, his dogged tagging caught the attention of the opposition coach to win the Man of the Match award. Flynn really had the wind in his sails during the second half with some great runs to join the other try scorers with two during this half including a length of the field run. Owen picked up a second try and also had an explosive run the full length of the pitch to set-up Otis with his third and final try. As in the first half Avonmouth managed to get a consolation try at the end of the second half. The match finished in what was a fairly one-sided affair with Chepstow winning 9 – 3.

Tries – Otis (3), Owen (2), Amelie (2), Flynn (2)

Player of the Match – Will Davies

A great game from Chepstow where they showed great determination in their tagging and some wonderful support for each other when making some fantastic breaks through the opposition defence. Things to work on;

getting back onside when in defence,

working to utilise the full team and get everyone involved,

run forward and don’t loop around putting our own team offside,

stay away from the touchline.
