Match Report - Caldicot u8 v Chepstow u8 17.12.17

Chepstow Under 8’s got the festive season underway and signed off 2017 in style with a great team performance against Caldicot Under 8’s on Sunday. With Zach captaining the side, Owen, Otis, Flynn, Henry, Tomas, Will, Kameli and James lined up against their local rivals for the second time this season.

Chepstow were out of the blocks quicker than Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen pull Santa’s sleigh, Flynn racing for the try line straight from the off and touching down. Otis quickly added a second following good work from Tomas grabbing a loose ball. Flynn added a third before Otis added two more to complete a hat trick faster than the elves put together toys on December the 23rd. With Five Gold Rings on the board Chepstow were clearly Asleep in Heavenly Peace when Caldicot broke the lines and posted their first score of the match. From the restart Caldicot then tagged well as a team and brought about a six tag turnover which wasn’t part of the plan…..Do they know it’s Christmas? Chepstow, as has often been the case in recent weeks worked superbly well as a team and took the ball back with a six tag turnover of their own. With the ball back in hand Tomas went over at the whistle to add a sixth try in a blistering first half display, was this set to be the Fairytale of Caldicot?

After the break captain Zach went over for his first following good work from Otis picking up the loose ball. Caldicot pulled one back from the restart however unfortunately for them, Chepstow immediately returned the compliment via Henry racing for the corner. Having won the ball back Flynn and Tomas combined well setting up Owen to go over before Caldicot grabbed another. Further tries from Flynn and Owen signalled Happy Christmas (Match is Over) or so the cold and wet ye faithful thought before the referee indicated a third period of play….

Straight from the off Chepstow were once again Rockin around the try line, Tomas going over again before a speedy young man named Harry pulled one back for the home side, driving through the Chepstow lines. Tomas struck again and then it was Annwyn’s Boy Child Otis with a trademark interception and try to seal a man of the match display. Caldicot pulled one back before the whistle but at 14 – 5 Chepstow had simply come too far now to throw it all away.

Tries – Otis (4), Flynn (3), Tomas (3), Owen (2), Henry (1), Zach (1)
