Chepstow under 7’s hosted North Bristol RFC in glorious sunshine on Sunday in their final home match of the season. Two pitches were put to use against a talented and organised North Bristol squad. On pitch One Chepstow were represented by James (c), Otis, Owen, Amelie, Peter and Henry and on pitch Two Bethan (c), Flynn, Tomas, Osian, Carrie and Tomos flew the flag for the black and white hoops.
On pitch One, North Bristol took the initiative with a try to get things moving however Otis hit back immediately from the restart. Bristol continued to pressure and score tries but each time they did tries from Otis pegged them back and kept Chepstow within touching distance. Some great Chepstow tagging led to no fewer than three six tag turnovers much to the frustration of North Bristol who just couldn’t find a way through. The match was clearly a competitive test for the Bristol boys who relished the challenge the quietly efficient Chepstow were posing. With scores level at 5-5 Amelie dived over in the final phase of the match to seal a 6-5 Chepstow victory.
Tries – Otis (5), Amelie (1)
After a physical first match on pitch Two Bethan, Flynn, Tomas, Osian, Carrie and Tomos were once again involved in another tough encounter. North Bristol were quick to move the ball and exploit the space giving them a seven try haul however Chepstow were not going down without a fight and kept tagging and running right until the final whistle. Two tries from Carrie plus one each from Tomas and Flynn couldn’t secure a victory this time but showed resilience and a willingness to compete despite the overall 7-4 score line not being in their favour.
Tries – Carrie (2), Tomas (1), Flynn (1)
Back on pitch One yet more tries from Otis, Amelie, Owen and Henry gave Chepstow another victory and it was clear both sides clearly enjoyed the competitive test posed by each other.
With strength in depth and a clear progression from last season the whole squad can feel really confident heading up to Abergavenny festival. Last season was a steep learning curve but all the boys and girls can feel especially proud of their achievements this season and sign off the season in style next week
