Match Report u14s vs Abergavenny

Not much to report this week.

This was a game completely marred by injury and stoppages, Abergavenny arrived short of numbers, but with the team showing great maturity and offering to play for the other team to help out we were able to start a 15 aside game in extremely windy conditions.

The first half was limited to around 5 minutes of actual rugby due to an extreme amount of stoppages for injuries to the Abergavenny players. With the players struggling for any continuity, the passages of play were extremely scrappy. Chepstow lost out at the breakdown on numerous occasions due to body angles and way too many forwards hanging out in the backs line looking for glory, at one stage we had 8 forwards in the backs  line, which enabled the opposition to easily turn over the ball. With another injury and now 3 Chepstow players playing for the opposition, Sam was able to break the deadlock to make it 5-0, with the conversion missed.

Chepstow started to put some passages of play together, but continued to spill the ball and get turned over at the breakdown, however Sam made another excellent break and with some superb support play Joe was able to crash over for the games second try, unfortunately in the process of scoring,, another Abergavenny player got injured. The conversion was missed and we were down to 14 aside at half time.

The second half kicked off and Chepstow went on the attack but again continued to choose the wrong option or spill the ball in contact. Sam managed to pounce for the games 3rd try which Josh converted, however another player went down injured and the opposition coaches asked for the game to be called off.

We will write this one off as a game to forget and will now continue to build for the team’s biggest game a week Sunday, so please everyone get to training so we can work on our game plan.

Also please focus on how good you were against Lydney as those are the confidence levels and performance we require. Thanks to the boys who played for the other team which allowed us to at least get 5 minutes of game time after all the effort put into the arranging of the game and catering. Thanks also to Brent for reffing and Jasmine for providing extensive medical attention!

Man of the match: Sam Jenkins.
