More miles on the road for the U16s meant a trip to Cardiff this time to play Rhiwbina. Shorn of a number of key players and with Dan Williams still nursing a bruised ankle we looked a little threadbare. However, Rhiwbina were similarly struggling. Wales had played NZ the previous day and it seemed to inspire both teams to play an extremely expansive game! Early on Thomas sold his usual dummy and won the footrace to score, Joe converting. Dan was going well along with Callum in the front row again, Jayden Davies his usual busy self, putting in some good hits. Then Rhiwbina showed their pace to take advantage of a sleepy defence to make it 7-5 and follow up with a converted try to take the lead 7-12. Will Ruck then bulldozed through a number of tackles to score with Joe converting followed by Keegan to make it 26-12. Rhiwbina again took advantage of a passive and now complacent defence to make it 26-19 and uncomfortably close as Chepstow should have been dominant but were struggling to play to a structure.
Finally the boys got into a decent shape and started to pull away, Keegan scored again followed by Spencer and Morgan then Joe T got in on the try scoring action. All boys were now enjoying the free flowing rugby with Jake Summers, Ieuan Rose and Edwin making good yards and almost scoring, Spencer was also doing well despite the lurgy. Tom Wacey, Joe Beard and Jake Allbert all sprinted clear to score their tries and complete the romp – 72-19 final score.
