Under 7s support u8s away at Broadplain RFC

Chepstow Under 8’s & Under 7’s combined to take a hard fought victory at Broadplain Bristol RFC on Sunday. Gundi (c), Owen N and Josh from the under 8’s were joined by Otis, Henry, Owen R and Tomas from the under 7’s evoking memories of the class of 2016 prior to going their separate ways this season. On the second pitch Flynn, Tomos, Riley, Pippa & Bethan gamely represented the under 7’s on a bitterly cold morning that saw hats and gloves worn by almost every player on all sides.

U8’s & U7’s combined VII - the young lady captaining Broadplain soon showed her leadership credentials putting Broadplain straight on the scoresheet having evaded several attempts to tag. Not to be deterred, her opposite number Captain Gundi quickly went over in response following a good run by Otis in to the corner. Broadplain responded to take the lead again however Chepstow levelled through Owen R and then took the lead through Otis after Broadplain had been forced to turn over possession following a “hand off”. It was Broadplain’s turn to come from behind however despite some resolute tagging and a great effort from Owen N on the line Chepstow couldn’t prevent Broadplain from levelling up the scores. Broadplain then worked a very good team try right at the whistle to take the lead after the first third.

After some very swift refreshments in the cold Chepstow levelled the match through Owen N following a run by Otis. Broadplain responded but Chepstow were really getting in to their stride now, Tomas going over after some good running by Gundi. Again Broadplain responded however Chepstow were straight back over the opposition try line, Owen R bagging his second try of the match from a Gundi pass. At this point the referee introduced a “3 pass rule” for both teams and Broadplain swiftly put themselves on the scoresheet. Chepstow took three quick passes from the restart and a wonderful run from Josh was eventually awarded the try after the referee was “reminded” by the crowd three passes had in fact been made. Broadplain again got on the scoresheet just before the whistle went to signal the end of the second period.

Chepstow were again quickly out of the traps with an Otis try following another quick break from Gundi. The pair then combined to repeat the feat moments later before another Broadplain response. Broad plain went over again but play was correctly pulled back for a foot in touch and from the resulting turnover Owen N ran almost the full length of the pitch to seal victory for Chepstow 10-9.

Tries – Otis (3), Owen R (2), Owen N (2), Gundi (1), Tomas (1) Josh (1)
