Squad – Tomas Briley ©, Tomos Barker, Flynn Wixey, Owen Ramsay, Amelie Thomason, Will Adshead, Will Davies, Henry French, Otis Smith, James Bridel

Chepstow welcomed Caerleon for the return fixture following their earlier visit to the land of Romans at the start of the season. Yet again Caerleon fielded a strong set of 15 players so the coaches agreed to play 2 games to give all the players plenty of game time.

Match 1

Chepstow took the kick off and progressed forward for Caerleon to force a 6 tag turnover. Caerleon made the most of the turnover and scored their first try of the game. Henry pushed forward with intent and a strong offload to Owen provided Chepstow with their first try. Caerleon began their next attack only for Chepstow to gain a 6 tag turnover which they used to their advantage culminating in their second try by the fierce Tomas. From the restart, Caerleon were keen to make amends and scored again. Chepstow took the ball forward but the ball was turned over to allow Caerleon to score. That was the end of the first half.

The second half continued where the first left off, with a Caerleon try. Chepstow came back with a try through Flynn. Chepstow managed another turnover and Owen took the ball busting through the defensive line to set-up a try for Otis. Caerleon hit back with another try of their own, during the next phase of play Tomos bust through the Caerleon lines to set-up Otis who was on hand for the try. A number of 6 tag turnovers by both teams led to a final try for Caerleon to take the first match 6 tries to 5 tries.

Match 2

Chepstow started the second game with Otis pushing forward with a pass to Tomas to score the first try of the game. Caerleon took the ball into touch to give Chepstow another chance to attack however a 6 tag turnover followed. Caerleon were back on the attack and evened up the scoring, Chepstow hit back with a long run from Otis. Caerleon then hit back with another try and took a 6 tag turnover from Chepstow to then score the final try of the first half.

Chepstow were showing signs of tiring in the second half after 30 minutes of tough rugby against a solid Caerleon team who brought on fresh legs each half. Some good quick passing from Caerleon gave them the first try of this final half of rugby. Owen gained back a try for Chepstow, however this was to be the last for the home side as Caerleon scored 3 further tries on the bounce to finish the game. Caerleon winning the game 7 tries to 3 tries.

Man of the Match - Owen Ramsay

Tries – Otis (3), Owen (2), Tomas (2) & Flynn (1)

A tough game for Chepstow with a lot to learn for the home team, focus for training to be on quick passing once tagged and, looking forward to next season, passing prior to being tagged/tackled to provide quick opportunities for players to progress forward.
