Match Report - Chepstow u8 v Broadplain u8

Chepstow RFC Under 8’s entertained Bristol Broadplain RFC Under 8’s on a bright and breezy Sunday. All of the Chepstow squad played a part over the course of the match with both sides enjoying a great morning’s rugby.

Squad – Kameli (Capt.), Will D, Otis, Amelie, Flynn, Henry, Will A, Tomas, Owen, James

Chepstow got proceedings underway but lost the ball and Broadplain were on to it like a flash. With ball in hand they made strides toward the Chepstow try line but a fantastic interception from Otis saw him charging for the try line to claim Chepstow’s first try of the match and deserved applause from both sets of supporters. It was then Broadplain’s turn to make the unforced error with a knock on after the restart to put the ball back in Chepstow hands. Good running and passing from Will D and Flynn put Otis in for another try to double Chepstow’s advantage. Broad Plain managed a try of their own at the restart despite Chepstow taking 3 tags and looking particularly sharp without the ball. At the restart it was Otis yet again charging through to claim his hat-trick before Broadplain manged to pull one back. At the restart Kameli drove forward and passed out to Flynn who darted down the line and evading all attempts to tag, he duly touched down for Chepstow’s fourth. At the restart Chepstow over committed numbers to the oncoming Broadplain player who side stepped the group and touched down with ease in the corner to make it 4-3. Chepstow looked dangerous every time they had the ball in hand and Amelie’s pass to Tomas saw him claim his first of the match to give Chepstow a two try advantage. Chepstow then secured their first six tag turnover of the match and from the resulting play Henry, Kameli and Amelie were involved as Tomas again touched down for Chepstow’s sixth. Broadplain struck back immediately but there was still time for Henry and Amelie to once again combine and Tomas to finish the move off and claim a quick fire first half hat-trick.

Taking a 7-4 lead in to the second half Chepstow were full of confidence but Broadplain caught them cold and grabbed a try straight from the off. Strong running from Amelie at the restart put Henry in and he went for the corner to make it 8-5. The resulting play saw Broadplain lose the ball for a knock on only for Chepstow to make the same mistake however they made amends with their second six tag turnover and with the ball in hand it was Captain Kameli’s turn to get on the score sheet with a try from Amelie’s pass. Broadplain struck back to make it 9-6 before Otis took Chepstow to double figures with his fourth and Chepstow’s tenth of the match.  Chepstow managed to get the ball back after Broadplain ran in to touch and following a strong run by Tomas it was Will Davies turn to grab a try for the home side. The away side did manage to make the try line once again but Chepstow were now out of sight and deserved 11-7 victors.

Tries – Otis (4), Tomas (3), Kameli (1), Flynn (1), Will D (1), Henry (1)

Man of the Match - Otis
