After a chastising last minute loss to Brynmawr last week the boys were keen to get back to winning ways. Following Wales’ performance against Scotland, the boys did not disappoint.
Chepstow were soon on the front foot winning most 50:50 contests and looking to use the ball ambitiously. Jake & Freddie were excellent in the engine room counter rucking, Angus tackled everything that moved, Spencer & Callum carried aggressively, Joe B, Dan & Lewis were really busy and made telling tackles. Tom Wacey was the find of the day, stepping in for Edwin at scrum half and unleashing the backline with Thomas running his straightening lines and Joe & Keegan running excellent support lines with Jake Allbert and Steven (fresh from the U15s game) also looking take adavantage. Morgan was our usual rock at fullback, in defence and attack.
The 1st try wasn’t long coming, Thomas successfully counter rucking and breaking clear, being brought down 5 metres out, however Tom W was racing in support and calling clearly, enabling a deft pop for Tom to speed on to and score an excellent try, Joe T converted, 7-0. The fearsome threesome of Thomas, Joe T & Keegan then all scored from free flowing moves. However, the space was created by the forwards pick and drive game that has really developed in the last few weeks.
Half-time was 26-0 and dominance from the home side at all aspects of the game.
More of the same in the 2nd half, Thomas crossed the whitewash again and Jake Allbert scored a fine wingers try, holding his position, coming from depth and using his pace to complete an excellent move. Tom Wacey capped off a fine display with his 2nd try and a job well done.
Final score Chepstow 41 – 0 Dinas Powys
