Chepstow RFC u8 v Sy Julians HSOB RFC u8 Match Report

St Julians HSOB arrived at Chepstow providing a tough test for the home side having previously played a friendly game at the start of the season during the Dragons Tag Festival at Rodney Parade, St Julians having only lost one game during the regular season so far were going to be a tricky opposition for the hosts who have also only lost one game this season.

Chepstow Starting VII – Will A (Capt.), Amelie, Tomos, Tomas, Otis, Owen & Flynn

The first half went by in a blur as this week’s journalist hadn’t realised he was in charge of the match report until the score was 4 v 3 to Chepstow! With some great play by both sides and a number of 6 tag turnovers by both side…in particular St Julians, the Chepstow team were finding it difficult to find a breakthrough but went into half time one score ahead. Tries scored in the first half by Otis, Amelie, Flynn & mystery player (no one claimed it during the after match meal). Highlights from the 1st half include some great tagging by Will A, setting a captain’s example, and Owen. Amelie was picked by the opposition coaches as the Player of the Match for her determination and communication to her fellow teammates.

The second half saw the introduction of Will D & James swapping for Flynn and Owen and kicked off again with a flurry of 6 tag turnovers with neither side managing to find chink in the stoic defence from both teams, Shaun Edwards would have been proud of the defence on show throughout today’s game. A fumbled ball by St Julians close to the Chepstow try line was seized upon by Otis who ran the length of the field, hugging the left touchline, to score his second try and put Chepstow 2 scores ahead. St Julians through some strong running got a try back. With the match tightly balanced at 5 – 4, St Julians were pushing for a try to level the match. A loose long pass however was intercepted by Otis who ran in his third try to put Chepstow 2 scores ahead. One more try for St Julians brought the match to 6 – 5.

A great, tough, morning of rugby from both sides. In particular Chepstow who have shown great development in their ability to structure the game and work closely as a team.

Tries – Otis (3), Amelie (1), Flynn (1), Mystery Try Scorer (1)

Player of the Match - Amelie
