Match Report Chepstow u7 v Avonmouth u7

Chepstow RFC Under 7’s entertained Avonmouth RFC Under 7’s at Chepstow Leisure Centre on Sunday. For the second home match in succession Chepstow turned out in numbers against a much improved Avonmouth who clearly relished the space afforded on the Welsh regulation sized pitch.

Match 1 - Tomos, James, Otis, Amelie, Owen, Alex and George made up the first contingent from Chepstow with Amelie captaining the side. As has often been the case, she set the perfect captains example by winning the arm wrestle and giving Chepstow the opportunity to get the match underway. After a good phase of play from Chepstow the ball was turned over for running in to touch and Avonmouth scored from the resulting restart. With the ball back in hand Chepstow then made their way up the pitch and despite some resolute tagging from Avonmouth Otis went over to get Chepstow off the mark. It was then Chepstow’s turn to show their tagging prowess and a 6 tag turnover handed back the initiative to the home side. Otis then went on a long looping run from to touch down in the corner to put Chepstow in front. Avonmouth hit back quickly with another try but Amelie replied for Chepstow following some good passing. Avonmouth ran in their third soon after however Otis soon put the home side back in front. With the clock ticking down it looked like a Chepstow win was on the cards but a try at the end for Avonmouth levelled the scores at 4-4.

Tries – Otis (3), Amelie (1)

Match 2 – Bethan, Henry, Flynn, Tomas, Osian, Pippa and Will.  Avonmouth quickly got off the mark but Flynn hit back with a determined run in to the corner. Avonmouth again went in front and from the restart Chepstow went for the corners but ended up turning the ball over after going in to touch. From the resulting put in a neat little side step resulted in Avonmouth’s third try and they were proving to be good value for the lead. With rain setting in and things looking bleak it was Tomas who took the initiative and having picked up the ball on the right hand side he sped toward the far left corner to get Chepstow back in contention. Avonmouth then lost possession from the restart and a lovely little move saw Will passing to Osain who caught well and skipped passed two attempts to tag before finally being stopped. A quick pass from the restart and Pippa was in to score in the corner and level the match for Chepstow. Unfortunately a quick Avonmouth response put them 4-3 up and Chepstow’s attempts to level were beaten by the clock.

Tries – Tomas (1), Flynn (1), Pippa (1)

Match 3 – Bethan, Amelie, Tomos, Flynn and George, despite having played two games already Avonmouth were still full of running and took an early lead. Chepstow responded with a neatly worked try with Amelie passing to Tomos who in turn passed to Flynn who converted for his second try of the morning. Avonmouth hit back at the restart however Chepstow were not to be beaten and a run and pass from Flynn put Bethan in to score and give Chepstow a draw 2-2

Tries – Flynn (1), Bethan (1)

Match 4 – Owen, Will, Alex, Pippa and James. Chepstow got off to a great start with Owen scoring a superb try having ran almost the full length of the pitch. Avonmouth secured a quick try in response but were now understandably showing signs of fatigue given their lesser numbers and now being in their fourth game.  With tired legs and concentration waning on both sides it was Chepstow who emerged with the final try off the day, Will going over following some neat passing from James and Owen.  2-1 to Chepstow

Tries – Owen (1), Will (1)
