Match Report U14s vs NHSOB RFC

Firstly apologies as we lost track of the scorers, a job Mr  Pocock used to do a great job of!, can we have some volunteers to track scorers in future games to help myself and Alyn out?

After witnessing a superb performance by the under 15’s, the 14’s were ready to go against a newly formed NHSOB and USK team. From the off we could see that we were going to be far too strong for the opposition scoring some extremely quick fire tries through Steven and Sam with ben converting a couple of them, missing one from near the touchline with an excellent effort that hit the post.

With the risk of the game being over within 25 minutes due to the amount of scoring, we changed personnel constantly, and also provide Nathan, Briden and Ieuan to the other side to even things up, the latter doing the unmentionable by scoring against his team mates. The tries continued to be scored with Man of the match Owen Denley continuing to finish try scoring opportunities. Steven who was excellent all game scored his first hatrick for the club, showing good strength and lightning pace to finish some excellent moves.

The second half became very scrappy and Chepstow’s accuracy was poor, with the breakdown area becoming completely uncontrolled. NHSOB started to get a foot hold in the game with only a try saving tackle by Owen on Nathan preventing them from getting over the whitewash again.

The game continued to be extremely scrappy until the final whistle was blown, with the coaches feeling that much harder opposition would have been better in their build up to the most important Under 14’s match on the horizon.

Final score: Chepstow RFC 52 – 12 NHSOB

Things to be pleased about:

1.       Some good facets of play particularly straight from the first kick off with quick ball really allowing our backs to cut loose.

2.       Some real good game time for the boys

3.       How well the newer players are gelling into the team

Things to work on:

1.       Taking the ball moving rather than on our heels

2.    Letting the ball do the work

3.    Keeping our structure in defence and attack
